New Values
If we are to redesign this nation to govern for all, we must also develop collective and individual souls grounded in love for, and the flourishing of, all.
For generations, countless efforts have been made to help this nation realize its promise as a nation that works for all. From advancing policies to building movements, people have come together to close the chasm between those for whom this country has worked and those who have yet to fully reap its benefits.
We have always had the seeds of the world we want to create. The problem is that we have not had the soil to plant them in. These seeds cannot grow in political, social, or economic systems that fail to acknowledge the dignity and interconnectedness of all humanity. They cannot grow in a bed of fear and division. As a nation, we have not yet reckoned with this challenge, and the inherited institutions are not designed for that purpose.
Our task is to rise to this challenge. We must acknowledge that the challenges we face are technical and they are also relational.
We must foster an individual and collective soul that loves all, seeing others in the fullness of their humanity and that our fates are intertwined. We must each make a commitment to loving and serving everyone, and honoring and insisting on the dignity of all. We must unapologetically reclaim “all” as an expression of our highest and truest aspirations — and we must ensure “all” truly means all.
By taking these actions, we can begin ushering in a new political, social, and economic context that, at last, acts in service of everyone’s flourishing.
Love or perish. This is the call to action for our time.
