Mission Statement
PolicyLink is a national research and action institute that is working to build a future where all people in the United States of America can participate in a flourishing multiracial democracy, prosper in an equitable economy, and live in thriving communities.
We imagine a future where everyone benefits from responsive and accountable governing systems and structures. People have good jobs and rising standards of living. The communities they live in are places that support the collective dignity and well-being of all people. Housing is affordable, transportation is accessible, and all people can access safe water.
We imagine a nation where a person’s race or zip code does not predict their life outcomes. A future where no one is expected to experience poverty or hunger or destitution, and there is no hierarchy of human value. There is, instead, a nation that works in service of our collective flourishing.
We have the opportunity to take ownership of this nation — with all of its promise and all of its faults — and serve as founders of a nation that at last works for all.
Realizing a future where everyone can thrive is the work of our generation. And we know that together, it is possible. PolicyLink partners with leaders across our nation’s communities, in government and elected office, and in philanthropy and corporations to accelerate our collective progress in two ways:
- We serve as a national research and action institute that lifts up the voice, wisdom and experience of local leaders to craft and advance policy solutions.
- We shape conditions, make connections, and support infrastructure that can help the movement accelerate, transform, and take evolutionary leaps forward. We catalyze these changes by bridging innovations, ideas, and efforts from every corner of this movement — whether that is leaders on the streets, government officials and elected leaders, or the c-suite.
Making this evolutionary leap demands that we treat this future not as a worthy aspiration, but as an outcome that can be measured and delivered. That work begins by materially changing the experiences of the nearly 100 million people living in or near poverty in the United States of America.
We do so by driving strategies aimed at advancing a new design of our laws and regulations, new values that shape our customs and norms, and expanding our collective governing power to deliver these transformational changes.
We invite you to partner with us, so our movement can take up the unfulfilled promise of “We, the People,” and deliver a nation that at last serves and honors all.
