Biography

Alex Ortiz, Senior Associate in Water Equity and Climate Resilience (WECR), is a water and wildlife policy expert. At PolicyLink, he supports the WECR Caucus as well as managing a project on analyzing state revolving funds (SRFs) across the Southern United States to prioritize equitable access and affordability for vulnerable communities. Alex is a native Texan, an attorney licensed to practice in Texas, and has a JD from Tulane University Law School where he also received a certificate in environmental law. Prior to joining PolicyLink, Alex led water and wildlife advocacy at the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club. While at Sierra Club, Alex was involved in addressing some of the most pressing water concerns facing the second largest state in the nation, including: fracking oil and gas wastewater (produced water), marine desalination, and equitable water infrastructure funding. In his free time, Alex can be found playing the piano or french horn, reading or writing poetry, wine tasting, or wandering around Texas beaches and hiking trails with friends and family.
