Housing Justice on the Ballot: The Critical Leadership of Tenant Organizers & Grassroots Organizations
October 20, 2022
In recent years, ballot initiatives have become an increasingly powerful and popular tool to circumvent slow-moving bureaucracies and take on an increasingly moneyed corporate landlord lobby that is more than willing to invest in killing tenant protection legislation. From California to Colorado, from Minnesota to Florida, organizers across the country have gathered tens of thousands of signatures, created and managed complex coalitions, written legislation and engaged with hundreds of thousands of voters to change the trajectory of the housing justice movement. This webinar featured organizations that led successful and ongoing ballot initiatives for right to counsel and rent control and highlighted their experience on the campaign trail.
